One area that delighted in the course of the work done over the last five years, has been the work with children-aimed at making them responsible future adults and to inculcate in them, through indirect means, values especially on civic, artistic and environmental questions.
The Youth Parliament brings youngsters between the ages of 13-20 years, on a common platform to share knowledge on aspects of governance and rights based issues.
The Youth Parliament (YP) is an organization created and run by young people that believes in providing the youth with a resource base to create their own initiatives engaging with socio-cultural, political, economic and environmental issues they are passionate about; using varied mediums such as music, public speaking, art, film, dance, photography, theatre, writing and workshops. Started in July 2002 by Ishita Chaudhry and Arshiya Sethi in collaboration with the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, YP has a Core Team of 800 young people between the ages of 13-27 who have conducted over 20 projects in New Delhi, working with over 30 schools, colleges and organizations.They can be contacted at theyouthparliament@yahoo.co.in
The rich calendar of summer workshops included environment and "values" workshops. Collaborators in this were World Wide Fund for Nature-India, Wildlife Trust of India and private organizations like Camp Roots that "promotes learning from the outdoors".
